How long have you worked at Something Social?
Going on 4 months!
Tell us about a day in the life of being an Account Coordinator.
Nothing starts before I have my green tea, but post-caffeination, all sorts of things from posting for accounts, engaging with followers, creating content calendars, or attending shoots! I use apps like Unum and VSCO to edit and arrange my feeds so they look top-notch. Shoot days can run long, but are one of the best parts of the job! I love getting to see a project I have been prepping for weeks unfold in front of my eyes. It’s exhilarating and extremely rewarding!
In your spare time you are…
I am a huge wellness enthusiast so working out and eating healthy are major priorities for me. Boxing to Drake’s ‘Nonstop’ at Prevail Boxing, sippin’ on iced matchas at Alo, or planning my next travel escapade (watch out Kenya). Self-care is more than just a hashtag trend to me. I dedicate a lot of time and money (oops!) to it.
Something Social is basically a one-stop shop for all content management and creation for clients. How do you manage it all and where do you draw your inspiration for content?
I prioritize my days by starting off with the most pressing tasks, usually posting for accounts or replying to clients (immediacy is key!). We use task management programs like Asana to help with all this, but I love grabbing a sticky note and writing out my tasks so nothing slips through the cracks.
Living in Los Angeles keeps me up-to-date on the latest trends. My favorite place to draw inspiration is around Abbott Kinney or Melrose Place where you’re surrounded by the latest style, beauty, and food + bev trends.
On Instagram, I am aesthetically inspired by accounts like @bagatiba, @thechalkboardmag, and @intothegloss. When it comes to lifestyle and wellness and tricks, I am an avid @girlboss, @goop, and @createandcultivate subscriber where I am inspired by their detailed articles on work, money, digital, and lifestyle. Shoutout to @Refinery29’s Money Diaries for keeping my matcha budget in-check.
What’s your favorite thing about working for Something Social?
Everyday I learn something new, and I love being constantly challenged. Social media is an ever-changing landscape, and working at Something Social keeps me in the thick of it.
We have the most incredible and diverse range of clients. From hospitality to beauty to television stars, I able to collaborate with and create relationships with movers and shakers from all types of industries.
Do you have any career crushes? Who do you look up to professionally?
I have a few but Whitney Wolfe (@whitney) of Bumble, Gwyneth Paltrow (@gwynethpaltrow) of Goop, Christene Barberich (@christenebarberich) of Refinery29, and Emily Weiss (@emilywweiss) of Glossier and Into The Gloss. All of my career crushes have completely unique success stories, businesses, and personalities but they all have built their beacons of feminine light upon the surging wave that is digital media.
Gwyneth particularly inspires me because of my own interest in wellness. She’s a fearless innovator leaving no stone unturned when it comes to covering the modern woman’s lifestyle. She faced a lot of backlash at the beginning, but believed in the value of her message and has proven to be one of the most dynamic players in digital media. In a space where content reigns supreme, curiosity is queen and Gwenyth wears the crown.
What do you love most about working in social media?
I love how social media has the potential to be a moodboard for individuals, celebrities, and brands alike. With social media, there is infinite possibility for artistic creativity and self expression.
What three characteristics do you think have gotten you where you are today?
Confidence, persistence, and optimism.
If you were a combination of three characters who would you be?
The enthusiasm and tenacity of Elle Woods. The fashion-forward goofiness of Rachel from Friends. And the energy and optimism of Lorelai from Gilmore Girls.
Favorite place in LA?
Broad Beach in Malibu. It is such a hidden gem (barely any tourists on an LA beach is a rarity!). After catching some rays and waves, head over to Sunlife for an incredible acai bowl.
